A leading figure of Fauvism, André Derain explored a color freed from resemblance — built on bold planes and vivid contrasts. His landscapes of Collioure, portraits, and marine scenes radiate with luminous energy.
In my studio, I create faithful hand-painted reproductions of some of his works, respecting both the materiality and the spirit of Fauvism.
Each project is approached with precision — never as a pastiche, never with excess.
An emblematic Fauvist portrait, structured through bold color fields and simplified contours. In its handcrafted reproduction, the painting restores the density of tones and the depth of the gaze.
A marine composition dominated by incandescent sails. Sky and water become chromatic fields serving the rhythm of the painting.
A landscape built in colored planes: trunks, foliage, and ground answer one another through contrasts, with light emerging from color itself.
A port view with purified drawing, where sea and hulls resonate in complementary harmonies. In a hand-painted copy, the chromatic vibration of this Mediterranean scene finds its natural place in a luminous interior.

His landscapes of Collioure, his portraits, and still lifes all bear the mark of this raw energy: a painting where color replaces light, and intensity triumphs over resemblance.
In 1905, Derain joined Matisse in Collioure. Together, they painted with pure, almost wild colors.
The critic Vauxcelles, struck by their audacity, coined the word “Fauvism.”
A year later, in 1906, Derain received a commission from his dealer Vollard — a series of London views. There, he developed a radical style, turning fog and the Thames into luminous symphonies.
Derain was also a sculptor and engraver, constantly seeking new paths of expression.
Paintings such as Charing Cross Bridge, Red Sails, or Trees at Collioure remain icons of Fauvism.
They remind us that color itself can be an adventure — a way of reinventing reality.
Derain invites us to see the world more intensely, in all its visual ardor.
