Thick surfaces · Impressionist brushwork · Classical detail · Gilded motifs

This page shows the surface of the paintings as I paint them: a living surface, sometimes with impasto, in any case with visible brushstrokes.

The images presented allow you to closely observe this work of the paint material, whether built in thickness or through subtle gradations.

Whether the approach is classical, impressionist, or more free, the gesture remains readable and the painting remains a tangible object.

Painted surface with visible texture

Here, the paint is applied with thickness.

The material is built up in visible layers, sometimes with a palette knife, sometimes with a brush, with more heavily loaded areas and others that are more blended.

Impressionist painting and brushwork

In impressionist painting, the brushstroke is free and clearly visible.

The paint is built up with small strokes, juxtaposed or blended, with variations of color and light.

Up close, the gesture and the layering of paint can be seen, even when the overall image appears light from a distance.

  • Snowy landscape with impasto (The Magpie)
  • Detail of the landscape showing an interpretation of snow rendering
  • Dense and vibrant brushwork in an impressionist urban landscape

In these paintings inspired by Pissarro, the brushstroke is denser and more present.

Color is applied in successive layers, giving the landscape its vibration and light.

Classical painting and detail work

In the category of classical paintings, the texture is revealed through detail.

The layers are thinner, the brushstroke remains visible up close, with attention paid to textures.

Even without pronounced impasto, the surface remains painted, constructed by the brush.

  • Portrait after Boldini, work on gesture
  • Detail of a portrait after Boldini, moustache and facial modeling
  • Detail of a Napoleonic painting, work on uniform and colors

  • Portrait with some raised motifs and gilded decorations
  • Oil-painted detail inspired by Klimt’s The Kiss – decorative motifs and gilded material in progress
  • Very close-up detail of a classical portrait

Golden pigments and painted motifs

Here, the material does not rely on thickness, but on the painted surface.

The motifs are applied by hand, one by one, using gold or silver pigments.

The canvas remains perceptible, and so does the paint.
